Chinese Philosophy

Confucianism

Daoism

Daoist traditions emphasized harmony with the Dao and living in accordance with the natural order.

Legalism

Legalist thinkers emphasized strong government, laws and institutions as tools for maintaining order.

Qin Dynasty

221 – 206 BCE

In 221 BCE, Qin Shi Huang unified several competing states and established the first imperial dynasty of a unified China.

The Qin government introduced centralized administration and standardized important systems across its territory.

The Qin period was short, but many of its administrative developments influenced the later Han dynasty.

The Great Wall

Walls and defensive barriers were constructed and connected in different periods to protect agricultural regions and settlements from various northern groups.

The Great Wall is not a single structure built at one time. Different sections were constructed, rebuilt and expanded across different dynasties.
