CHOLA KINGDOM • TAMILAKAM

Kallanai — Hydraulic Engineering

Traditionally attributed to the Chola ruler Karikala, Kallanai was constructed across the Kaveri River to divert water into irrigation channels.

Its engineering reflects an advanced understanding of river management, agriculture and large-scale hydraulic construction.

Aryabhata — Mathematics & Astronomy

Aryabhata composed the Aryabhatiya, an influential work covering mathematics and astronomy. It presented methods for astronomical calculations and mathematical procedures that became important to later Indian scholars.

His work represents one of the major achievements of India's classical mathematical and astronomical tradition.
